David-

As others have said, Eric Moen is really top notch. He is a tandem rider as
well and is very knowledgeable about tandem requirements. One cannot
emphasize enough how critical overall bike fit is for knee issues (not just
pedal adjustment). Knees and physical build can vary a great deal, so
having an expert like Eric can do wonders. Probably the most common cause
of knee problems after incorrect pedal alignment is having a seat adjusted
too low. Being even 1 mm too low for someone with sensitive knees can make
a huge difference. Spending a couple hundred bucks or so to get both of you
fitted by Eric together with good shoes, saddle and seatpost are among the
best investments you can make in cycling. After you do it for awhile and
learn the subtleties, you will understand how to make the necessary tweaks
and adjustments on your own.

Good luck.

Subject: [ETC-Discussion] Physical therapist/Orthopedist recommendation?

My wife and I are new to tandemming and ETC, and started training to do the
STP. We've had to give that goal up this year because she has started
getting knee pain. We would like to find a physical therapist or
orthopedist with enough experience dealing with cycling aches and pains to
help figure out which of the various kinds of knee problems this is and
advise on whether it would help to raise/lower the saddle or change to
pedals with more/less float. Can any of you recommend someone in the
Seattle area? Thanks,

David
