[ETC-Discussion] thanks for crash assistance

My wife and I went to your excellent ETC Tandem 101 workshop in the
spring. Although we haven't yet taken the plunge to tandeming, we
enjoyed meeting everyone and appreciated the generous sharing of
knowledge, experience, and test rides. A belated thanks to all for the
day.

Yesterday I was out on my single ride for an STP training run around
Lake Washington on a gorgeous day. Coming south down the Sammamish
RIver Trail about a mile or two north of Marymoor Park, I crashed
while passing someone when I hit a huge root tumor that was trying to
escape the ground through the pavement. The bump was outlined in
bright orange paint, but I missed it while looking back over my right
shoulder to check if it was clear. At least I think that's what
happened; I was by myself and it was one of those instantaneous yet
slow-motion events. I don't think I was going very fast, nor am I a
reckless rider by nature.

Anyway, I wasn't hurt badly, but while I was writhing around on the
ground with a severe calf cramp from the fall, a nice group of fellow
cyclists stopped to help. I didn't get anyone's name and was still in
mild shock, I guess, so don't remember even what they looked like. But
there was a tandem in the group and on the off chance that the fellow
who lent assistance and leg cramp triage was an ETC member, I just
wanted to say thanks again. It was MUCH appreciated.

I gingerly rode a few more miles but when my leg started to tighten
up, I decided to head for home and put my bike on a bus for most of
the return trip. (I guess that option isn't available to tandems, eh?)

Anyway, with just some mild road rash a little soreness, I hope to
still make it to STP.

Thanks again to the good samaritan on the tandem in case he is
listening.

Happy trails,

.andy
