We just took delivery of our second tandem. This is a bit out of the ordinary tho, so I thought I'd share the experience.
This is a used Bike Friday Twin Air that I got off of ebay. BF only made these for a couple years. It was their (then) flagship model with a more triangulated frame, and titanium seat tubes.
Now I've been "ebaying" for quite a few years so that was nothing new other than this was a pretty large investment made largely on faith, investigation, lots of phone calls and faith.
A bike shop in Illinois was selling this for a customer of theirs. His wife wanted nothing to do with tandems. Go figure !!
I made several phone calls to them, and to Bike Friday (with the serial numbers) making sure this thing would fit, checking out the components etc. Both were very helpful.
I took the plunge. What's the worst that could happen ?
And it arrived today in it's two suitcases. The fit (checked with a tape measure) is spot on.
I spent the afternoon puzzling out how it goes together. There were no instructions so it took some T & E, but I think I got it. It's not done becuase I ran out of beer, but it should be on the road shortly. Right now it's in the living room under a spot light being admired. Still short the timing chain and the cables aren't hooked up.
It's a very quirky, unusual, and fun design this Twin Air.
More to follow.
Oh it's Krylon BBQ black which is a perfect color for a bike that'll live some of it's life in a suitcase. The inevitable scratches will be easy to deal with.
