[ETC-Discussion] Shifter question

Pat-

What kind of shifters do you have - downtube, bar-end or brake-shifters
(brifters)?

If something is stuck or corroded, a thorough dunk and 2-day soaking in
WD-40 is a standard approach (not necessary to remove from bike, but a lot
less messy if you do). If that loosens it up, then lubricate moving parts.
Also, be sure that rust or corrosion in your shift cable and housing isn't
causing the problem. Here's a link on the WD-40 brifter treatment:

You can still get new 8-speed downtube and brifters, although not 105
series. Also, a JTEK shiftmate #2 adapter allows a 9-speed shifter to work
on 8 speeds.

If something is broken, this stuff is not rebuildable, but you can still get
new 8-speed downtube shifters and brifters, just not in 105

Subject: [ETC-Discussion] Shifter question

Our old Santana has 8 speed Shimano 105 shifters. We haven't ridden the
bike in a couple of years, in fact we weren't the last to ride it, and the
rear shifter isn't engaging.
Anyone know what my options are? Not sure if there is anyone that can
rebuild the guts.
