We rode on Maui for a day. The traditional tourist thing is the "Cruiser
Bob" tour that drives you up to the summit of Haleakala before dawn to watch
the sunrise, then you all coast back down together on cruiser bikes. That
was too regimented for us, instead we went with an outfit that rented real
road bikes including a pre-dawn lift to the summit. We were on our own for
the ride down and the rest of the day, we could go wherever we liked. We
rode around for several hours before getting the bikes back to the shop
before closing time.
I recall it as pretty nice riding. Good pavement (no frost heaves,
naturally) and no bad traffic. I wish we'd had a copy of the Maui bike map,
