[ETC-Discussion] 2010 NWTR - Medford

We liked Medford even more than we expected we would. As mentioned, the
weather was perfect all weekend, warming from the low 70s on Friday to mid
80s on Sunday and cloudless with light winds. We arrived on Thursday and
spent Friday riding around on our own and doing the Harry & David factory
tour. The visitor's center sent us off to Rogue Valley Creamery (known for
its blue cheese), a winery tasting room and a chocolate shop, all on the
same parking lot. The blue cheese chocolate truffles were to die for.
We did the long ride on Saturday and the route was great, one sustained
climb followed by miles and miles of gorgeous scenery on a gentle downhill,
followed by an almost imperceptible climb back up. No complaints about the
food at the stops, there were bagels and cream cheese, Fritos, fresh fruit
(cut up and in little cups, which made them really fast to grab), bananas (a
little too green) and M&Ms, both male and female. The bag lunch contained a
generous chicken wrap, salad, juice and a cookie. We didn't attend the
banquet.
On the down side, their Dan Henrys were easy to miss and all of Saturday's
routes ended with a greenway trail through town that wasn't a good choice,
too many pavement cracks and some corners that were just a bit tight for
tandems, for the triplets, quads and quint on the ride they must have been
more than a bit. While the stops were OK on food, the drink was just water
and Heed, which I don't much care for, and there weren't enough
porta-potties. I was surprised how few vendors were at the vendor fair, not
even Co-Motion, Burley or Bike Friday, just up the road in Eugene, but
that's not the fault of the organizers.
Our bike broke Saturday night so the only riding we did on Sunday was back
to the airport after the BBQ.
